Herein is a selection
of notes and information about Ultima VIII, called Pagan.
Stratos: The
Avatar's Victim, or a Defeated Despot?
Stratos
was notable as the ony one of the four Titans ruling Pagan who in
any way seemed to care about the people. She went out of her way
to both protect and heal the Pagans, and was thus worshipped by
many.
The Titans were
created by the belief of the Pagans, both to defeat the Zealan Gods
and their followers, and to combat the Destroyer, who was in reality
the Guardian who had warned the Zealan people of his own coming
in order to divide and weaken them. As the Titans were created from
thoughts of combat, war, and slaying, so did the natures of the
other three Titans, Lithos, Pyros, and Hydros, reflect that nature.
Only Stratos did not seem to do so.
When the conflict
between the Titans after their defeat by the Guardian (this defeat
being unknown to the people of Pagan) is considered as a war however,
the behavior of Stratos becomes much more sinister. Lithos gained
some devotion by threatening the Pagans, then making a bargain with
them for their dead. Pyros was bound by the Sorcerers, who tapped
into his power. And Hydros was imprisoned within her own temple
by the husband of one of her victims. Any respect and worship gained
by this deadly trio was in most cases limited to that gained by
fear.
Stratos on the
other hand, was both worshipped and respected for her compassion.
She sent the Theurgists out to heal the people, and would occasionally
aid them more directly. Hence the devotion to her would have been
more widespread than that gained by her siblings. Hence the power
of Stratos would continue to grow...
When the Avatar
was imprisoned in Pagan, the Breath of Air, which was at once both
the greatest strength and weakness of Stratos was stolen by him.
The initial reaction of Stratos was to beg for its return, but when
the Avatar confronted her in her own Domain, the Plane of Air, her
reaction was far from forgiving. Without any witnesses, she resorted
to the savagry of her kin in her attack on the Avatar, but was defeated.
Thus it is concluded
within this tome that Stratos was not the only one of the four Elemental
Titans to be Virtuous in nature, but rather that she was wiser by
far than the others, concealing her true nature behind a facade
of seeming kindness.
Of Altering Files
to Cheat
In the SubDirectory
called Gamedat, lies a File named Avatar.Dat! Yet be warned that
this file doth only exist when thy Journeys within Pagan hath already
begun.
Use that Spell
named Debug from the Realm of Dos, upon that File, then enter the
following Arcane Information "e 12a 01 01", and complete that portion
of the Ritual with the action of Return. To complete the next stage
of that Ritual to Cheat in the realm of Pagan, enter that Symbol
"w" and again perform the Mystical Return. The Final Symbol to be
used is "q", and the Return action completes thy Sorcerous Spell
to cheat in Ultima VIII.
Of the Hidden
Chamber of Treasure
Deep within that
portion of Pagan called the Lower Catacombs is a doorway that cannot
be opened, regardless of the force thou mayst unleash upon it. Before
that door lies a device which doth shoot fire to prevent thine access.
Stand before
that Door and Jump at it, to enter the Mystic Teleporter that will
take you to a Room filled with Treasures beyond imagining.
