Being a Listing
of the Steps Required to Save the Valley of Eodon, and the World named
Earth upon which it Lies, From Utter Destruction.
Beginning the Mission
While the situation
does not seem vitally important, the consequences of failure in the
Valley of Eodon include the destruction of the entire world. Of course
this only becomes apparent during the adventure.
Upon awakening,
talk to Intanya to find the locations of the missing friends, and general
information about the valley. Also talk to the chief Aloron in order
to get the first clue about the home of the Urali.
Finding Friends
In order to complete
the mission, the help of Jimmy Malone and Professor Rafkin is essential.
Jimmy records the tasks required in his notebook, while Rafkin knows
the location of his lab, and can give instructions on the manufacture
of grenades and rifles. If he is not in the party, not possible to identify
Potassium Nitrate in the caves.
Rafkin is to the
east of the Kurak village, in the village of the Yolaru, who call him
the Schweitzer. He has some useful equipment in his hut, including scissors,
a metal hammer, and a vine rope.
Jimmy is a captive
in the village of the Disquiqui. He has been sentenced to a fate worse
than death - marriage to the chief's daughter, Guoblum. He will be most
relieved to be released.
Locating the Lab
Professor Rafkin's
laboratory is at Map Location 36, south and somewhat east of the Kurak
village. The following equipment is essential:
The Rifle and Ammo
The Fire Axe
The Fire Extinguisher
The Sieve
The Metal Buckets
In order to make
flintlocks, Rafkin must be in the lab.
Heading north from
the lab, there are some tar pits. The metal buckets can be filled with
tar for making tools and weapons. There is also a dead smilodon, which
should be cut up with a knife to obtain the skin.
His Brains are
Blue !?!
In order to rescue
the beautiful Aiela, the hidden home of the Urali tribe must be found.
The only person who can reveal the secret is their former shaman, Topuru,
living to the west of the Barako. Unfortunately, Topuru has lost his
mind - literally. When he challenged Balakai, the shaman-chief of the
Barrab tribe, Balakai used a spell to put Topuru's mind into a small
blue stone, and told him that he would destroy the stone of Topuru did
not stop causing trouble. Without his mind, Topuru cannot remember where
the Urali homeland is.
After the trip to
the Barrab tribe, Balakai is quite willing to tell the story of the
blue stone. Having seen that Topuru was powerful but almost insane,
he demonstrated a fake ritual on his daughter Nakola, claiming to have
taken her mind. Then he repeated the ritual on Topuru.
The result of this
trick, the insanity of Topuru, could be reversed by giving him ANY small
blue stone. A stone can be obtained by going to the Sakkhra caves and
hitting a blue boulder there with a metal hammer.
Once the blue stone
is obtained and taken to him, Topuru will swallow it. He can then reveal
the location of the cavern leading to the Urali homeland, the second
cave from the north, to the east of the Yolaru village.
Topuru will also
give some turtle bait, which is useful for water travel in the Urali
swamps.
Just One Last Little
Obstacle... Tag with a T-Rex
Once through the
cave and in the Urali swamp, there is a path leading to the Urali village.
Of course there is one tiny little problem on an island in the middle
of the path, the tribe's guardian Tyrannosaurus Rex...
There are two ways
to deal with the obstacle. The first is extremely risky - play tag with
it - Tag, you're dead. It IS possible to pass it this way, just very
difficult. There is a better alternative.
The best way to
pass the T-rex is to use the turtle bait from Topuru to summon turtles
for the party to ride around the island. This method saves the inevitable
wear and tear on the party from having the T-rex as an unfriendly playmate.
In the Hidden Valley
The first person
encountered along the path leading to the village during daylight hours
is Wamap, the tribal shaman. Having passed the dangers of the valley
to locate the Urali, the party seems to be a good choice of friends
to Wamap. He is quite willing to aid the party in return for a small
favour - the rescue of the tribal totem, the Great Fabozz. This spirit
is the true ruler of the tribe, and has been imprisoned by Darden the
Huge, the kidnapper of Aiela.
The Rescue of a
Statue
In the cave to the
north of the Urali village, there is a huge statue, guarded by men loyal
to Darden. The statue is the physical manifestation of the Great Fabozz,
a spirit of light, who has been too weakened by the darkness of the
cave to escape. Once the statue is reached, there are two possible means
to provide the light required to free Fabozz. The first is the ignition
of a Magnesium Strip from a jar in Rafkin's lab. The second is the simple
act of taking a close-up photograph with Jimmy's camera, which has a
VERY bright flash. Once one of these actions has been performed, Fabozz
issues the following statements:
Darden is outcast.
Wamap is the new
chief of the Urali.
The T-rex will no
longer attack the Avatar and his party.
Aiela is imprisoned
in a cave to the south of the Urali village.
Rescue the Jungle
Princess
To the south of
the Urali village, near a stream is a cave. Inside the cave is the cage
imprisoning the Kurak princess Aiela. Using the cage door frees her,
and gets the attention of Darden. Because of the proclamations of Fabozz,
Darden must fight alone.
Once Darden is dead,
talk to Aiela. Discuss her job, the Myrmidex, and uniting the tribes.
Return to the Urali village and ask Wamap to unite the Urali tribe with
the others against the Myrmidex. As the Great Fabozz has been rescued,
he will agree (he also sees a chance to get more power for himself,
being a sneaky schemer).
Uniting The Tribes
The Myrmidex are
the most significant apparent threat to the survival of the tribes within
the Valley of Eodon. The ant-like monsters have huge numbers, and display
frightening signs of intelligence. They are also implacably hostile
towards any other form of life.
Fortunately there
is precedent for uniting the tribes against an external threat. When
the dinosaurs became to numerous and threatened the survival of the
tribes, a warrior named Oloro performed tasks for each chief to convince
them to unite to thin down the numbers of dinosaurs. He also constructed
a huge drum to call the tribes to battle.
Assembling the
Tools
In order to unite
the tribes, several tools are required. These are:
The Fire Extinguisher
- to cool lava.
The Fire Axe - to
fell trees.
Grenades - to shift
rocks.
A Spear - to make
the Spear of Shamap.
Torches - to burn
out spiders.
Before attempting
to complete the tasks set by the chiefs, the above list of tools should
be assembled. Grenade and torch construction procedures are listed under
their respective entries above.
The Jungle Telegraph
The only means of
long distance communication within the Valley of Eodon is by drum. Once
the chiefs have all agreed to unite against the Myrmidex threat, a drum
is required to summon them to the fight.
The legendary site
of the original Great Drum is called Drum Hill, and is to the north
of Tichticatl. It even has a drum maker currently resident, an exiled
Disquiqui named Tuomaxx.
If given the hide
of a Smilodon, and asked about making drums, Tuomaxx can rebuild the
Great Drum.
The Kurak - Rescue
Aiela
The task required
to persuade Aloron, chief of the Kurak tribe to unite with the other
tribes against the Myrmidex is the rescue of his daughter Aiela from
the Urali. This should present no problem at this point.
The Urali - Devious
Gratitude
In return for the
death of Darden and the rescue of the Great Fabozz, Wamap of the Urali
is willing to unite his tribe with the others. His long term goals though,
are to eventually become the overall chief of all the tribes.
The Pindiro - A
Wise Chieftain
The chief of the
Pindiro, Inara, is the only leader who truly wants an end to the clashes
between the tribes. She is willing to unite with the other tribes without
the performance of any task.
While in the Pindiro
village, there is a warrior named Dokray who is willing to join. He
is an exact double of Dupre.
The Barako - Avatar
vs King Kong
The princess of
the Barako tribe, a teenager named Halisa, has been kidnapped by a gigantopithicus,
and taken up a mountainside to a high plateau. The Queen of the tribe,
Halawa, will unite with the other tribes if her daughter can be rescued
from the giant ape.
Along the road leading
north from the Barako village there is a ford crossing a stream. By
following the south bank of the stream until it turns north and stops
at a waterfall, a small cave is reached. Access to the cave is blocked
by the flow of the waterfall.
Above the waterfall
there is a huge boulder. By attacking the boulder with a grenade, if
the correct location is chosen the boulder can be blasted onto the stream,
cutting off the waterfall. This allows access to the underground tunnel
leading up onto the ape's plateau.
Upon reaching the
plateau, the party must deal with a large, hostile gigantopithicus.
Once this problem is eliminated, the party must head further south on
the plateau to find Halisa. Once she has been told that she can go home,
her mother Halawa will agree to unite the Barako with the other tribes.
Just to the south
of the ford, a warrior named Shamaru waits. He will join if he is asked.
He is the double of Shamino.
The Disquiqui -
Dealing with Drunk Dinosaurs
The Disquiqui are
the most incompetent tribe in the entire Valley of Eodon. The only member
of the tribe with any remaining vestige of intelligence is Lerei, who
has the task of keeping captured prisoners.
If the Disquiqui
are to unite with the other tribes, the chief Chafblum require two tests
- Bravery and Skill. They are certain that the Avatar could never pass
the third test - Virtue.
The Test of Bravery
is simply to drink a jug of the favourite Disquiqui beverage, Plachta.
While it is not the most pleasant of drinks, it does not appear to have
any long term side effects.
The Test of Skill
is a little more difficult. The Disquiqui warriors are being slowly
eaten by a T-rex, who eats some warriors, staggers off to sleep the
intoxicants out of its system, then returns for more so that the alcohol
in the Disquiqui warriors will block out the hangover. All Chafblum
wants is the attachment of a bell on a collar to the T-rex so his warriors
will hear it coming soon enough to run away.
Lerei, the jailer,
has the only useful idea. She suggests using the Spear of Shamap, a
knockout weapon capable of felling a dinosaur. The Spear is mage by
attaching a bottle of Plachta to a spear, and used by throwing the spear
at the target so that the bottle breaks. The Plachta will knock out
the T-rex for long enough to attach the bell. Note that the Plachta
is the same stuff that had to be drunk for the test of bravery.
Chafblum will provide
some Plachta for the spear. The annoying T-rex is along the road east
from the Disquiqui village. Once the spear is used and the bell on the
T-rex, the Disquiqui will unite with the other tribes.
The Haakur - An
Itsy Bitsy Spider...
While all the tribes
clash with both each other and the Myrmidex, the Haakur have a problem
with another type of bug. The chief, Grugorr, has lost his son Krukk
to the spiders. If the spiders are killed, their webs burnt, and the
shield belonging to Krukk returned to Grugorr, then the Haakur will
unite with the other tribes.
The spider cave
is at Map Location 24, roughly Southeast of the Haakur caves. By holding
a lit torch, the cave is lit, and the holder has a weapon that will
ignite the webs. As well as giant poisonous spiders, the cave also contains
a hole into the Myrmidex caverns. Some warriors whose bodies are near
the hole had Nahuatla obsidian swords, which will help with a task later.
Other items in the cave include the Shield of Krukk, a camera, and a
modern rifle with ammo.
Once the Shield
of Krukk is returned to Grugorr, the Haakur will join with the other
tribes to fight the Myrmidex.
A Haakur warrior
named Ugyuk will join the party - as long as his enemy Dokray is not
already a member.
The Jukari - Firewalking
The Jukari live
in the volcanic southeast of the Valley of Eodon. They have recently
suffered a disaster due to the volcanoes in the area, killing both their
shaman and chief. The new chief, Jumu, will agree to unite with the
other tribes if the Sacred Hide, which illustrates the tribal history
of the Jukari, is retrieved from their sacred cave. Unfortunately the
recent disaster has cut the cave off from the rest of the valley with
a lava flow. Just walking to the cave is impractical for most people.
The Fire extinguisher
from the lab can be used to cool patches of lava for long enough for
the party to cross. The cave is at Map Location 17, to the east of the
Jukari village.
The Sacred Cave
contains quantities of diamonds and emeralds. The Emeralds are needed
for another task.
The Yolaru - Seeking
a Set of Swords
Apaton, the chief
of the Yolaru, has a shortage of good weaponry. In order to persuade
him to unite the Yolaru with the other tribes, he must be provided with
ten Nahuatla obsidian swords.
There are Nahuatla
swords on some bodies in the spider cave. By using the emeralds from
the Jukari cave, trading parrot feathers for emeralds, it is possible
to buy enough swords to make Apaton's quota.
The Sakkhra - To
Kill a Tyrannosaur
By now it should
be clear that a direct confrontation with a T-rex is suicide. Hence
when Sysskar, the chief of the Sakkhra demands the death of the Thunderer,
a T-rex that is blocking his tribe's access to medicine plants, it would
seem that there is no way to unite all the tribes.
Ideas can come from
the strangest sources. The local parrots believe that if all of them
work together, they can drop a rock on a T-rex, to kill it. Rafkin's
autopsies of deceased T-rexes confirms that a large boulder dropped
on one should have fatal results.
By cautiously checking
the valley of the medicine plants, just north of the Teleport Plaza,
it becomes clear that the favourite location of the Thunderer is below
a cliff, upon which is perched a large boulder.
There is a route
up to the cliff further to the west. Once behind the boulder, the application
of a grenade will drop the boulder onto the weak skull of the T-rex,
resulting in the willingness of Sysskar to unite the Sakkhra with the
other tribes.
There is a Sakkhra
warrior, Kysstaa, who is willing to join the party.
The Barrab - Climb
to the Clouds
There are three
mesas in the southwest region of the Valley of Eodon. The Barrab tribe
live atop the smallest. There was once a bridge between the other two,
the Lesser Mesa, and the Great Mesa. Unfortunately the bridge has collapsed,
and there is no longer a way to reach the unclimbable Great Mesa.
In order to unite
the Barrab tribe with the others, the chief, Balakai, must be provided
with the root of a rare orchid, found only on the Great Mesa. In order
to reach the Mesa, the Lesser Mesa must be climbed, and a tall tree
located along the northern cliffs. The Fire Axe is required to cut the
tree down, so it's trunk makes a bridge to the Great Mesa.
Once on the Great
Mesa, it is simple to find the orchid - it has a tendency to find the
party. Once the rare carnivorous orchid has been killed, it's roots
can be collected to be returned to Balakai.
While on top of
the Great Mesa, a trip to the northernmost point on the mesa is required.
Above the cliff there is a crystal holder. Placing the Giant Crystal,
given to Aiela by Darden, in the holder opens the trap door leading
into the Kotl city at Map Location 30.
Once the trap door
is open, the root can be returned to Balakai, so that he will agree
to join the union of tribes.
The Nahuatla -
To Travel Underground
An attempt to persuade
Huitalpacti, the current king of the Nahuatla, that any union of the
tribe is necessary is tantamount to suicide. His shaman, Dr Johann Spector,
locally known as Zipactriotl, is likewise homicidally inclined. However
talking to the parrot Cleese, can give fair warning as to Zipactriotl's
mental state and current plans. It also reveals the existence of the
Kotl city and Spector's assistant, Fritz.
Talking to one of
the prisoners in the Tichticatl jail is also illuminating. The former
shaman, Oaxtepac, can tell of the legends of the Kotl city, and of the
golden guardian of its doors. He knows that the Head of such a guardian
is in the treasure chamber of Huitalpacti's palace. This head must be
collected.
Among the Pindiro
there are tales of a strange warrior named Fritazz, living to the west
of the village. This is Spector's former assistant Fritz. Fritz can
give fair warning about Zipactriotl, and possesses some ammunition for
a modern rifle. He also has a crystal brain which he took from Spector
after he went insane. The brain, while not completely necessary, is
useful.
Among the Disquiqui
is the exiled former King of the Nahuatla. Moctapotl would be willing
to unite the Nahuatla with the other tribes - if the invulnerable Huitalpacti
were removed from power.
Once the head has
been collected, a trip to the Teleporter Plaza reveals that a trapdoor
is open to the southeast. After descending underground a small chamber
with a headless golden statue and sealed doors is entered. By using
the head on the statue, the Golden Guardian, Yunapotli is repaired.
He will join the party. He will also open the doors into the rest of
the Kotl city if asked. Yunapotli can answer questions about some of
the Kotl technology if given his brain.
It is best to take
Yunapotli's advice and speak to Katalkotl. The hologram can give directions
to the generators, and mentions the device used to locate the Black
Moonstone from which the city generators draw their power.
Black Staves and
Kotl Shields are found in the city. There are some with the Locator,
and others to the far west. The Locater device itself is in a small
chamber which can be accessed by Teleporter Pad. To reach this pad,
take the South pad from the central nexus, and head west. Use the teleporter
and go through the other pads in your new location to get the equipment
you need. While not essential, the Locator makes locating the Moonstone
in the Myrmidex caves easier. There are also gas canisters and healing
crystals scattered throughout the city.
Once the Locater
has been collected it is best to take Katalkotl's directions to visit
the generators. The easier route is blocked by Zipactriotl, who is very
surprised to find that others have managed to enter the city.
At the generators,
there is a control console. Destroying this shuts the generators off,
and renders the city powerless. This removes the force field protecting
Huitalpacti, who is killed by his own people, who restore Moctapotl
to his throne. It also kills Yunapotli.
The removal of the
force field from around Spector allows his brain to resume it's normal
function, restoring his sanity. Johann joins the party. He has much
information which is important to the survival of the Valley of Eodon.
Summoning the Tribes
to War
Once the tasks have
been completed, it is time for the assault on the Myrmidex. Johann Spector
also warns of the threat of the Moonstone, and that in order to completely
remove the Myrmidex threat, their Queen must be killed to prevent her
hatching a new brood of warriors to eliminate her enemies.
Beating the Drum
At Drum Hill, the
reconstructed Great Drum must be used to summon the united tribes. Once
they attack the Myrmidex in the Valley, a small assault force must venture
into the underground tunnels and destroy the Queen and the Black Moonstone.
Through the Myrmidex
Tunnels
The party starts
the trek through the Myrmidex Tunnels from the Spider Cave entrance.
By using the Black Staves from the Kotl city and modern rifles, it is
possible to fight through the depleted numbers of Myrmidex guarding
the passages. The judicious use of shamanistic magic is also useful,
as are quantities of bandages.
Saving the World
Once the Myrmidex
Queen is reached, she must be killed in order to reach the corrupted
Black Moonstone. Once the Moonstone is reached, it must be destroyed,
preferably with distance weapons.
The destruction
of both the Queen and Moonstone drives the remaining Myrmidex insane,
allowing an easy exit as the Myrmidex destroy themselves. The Valley
of Eodon, and indeed the entire Earth, have been saved.
