Ultima IX: Ascension Weapons and Armour Information. This document contains the following information, originally transcribed from the Prima Guide to Ultima IX. 1) Weapons Damage Values, sorted by weapon type. 2) Armour Protection Values, sorted by armour type. 3) Armour Protection Values, sorted by the location the armour is worn on. It was originally posted to the rec.games.computer.ultima.series newsgroup by MizzTV and has been since reposted by Henri Enkleweis. 1) Weapons Damage Values There are four groups of weapons, each with its own associated skills. 1.1) One Handed Weapons 1.2) Two Handed Weapons 1.3) Staves and Polearms 1.4) Bows and Arrows 1.1) One Handed Weapons The Flaming Sword does Fire Damage to flammable foes and sheds light when drawn. Make sure that you don't run out of arrows. To create a Fire Arrow you need to have been trained to Journeyman level with the Bow, and have an oil container in your pack. It does damage to everything in 4 feet of the target. To create a Mana Arrow you need to have the Master Bow skill, and 10 spare mana. It damages everything in 8 feet of the point of impact. The War Bow of Blood takes 2 HP for every arrow fired with it. Weapon Damage Range Novice Bow 1-6 Short Target Bow 10-15 Medium Longbow 20-25 Medium Siege Bow 30-35 Long Iolo's Bow 45-50 Long War Bow of Blood 60-70 Long Fire Arrow 30 As per bow Mana Arrow 45 As per bow 2) Armour Protection Values, sorted by armour type. There are a number of types of armour, ranging from the common and inferior Leather to the extremely rare and very effective Blackrock armour. When the Avatar is attacked, each piece of armour will deduct an amount of damage randomly selected from the range between 0 and the protective value listed with each piece below. This averages to about half the total value of the protection. 2.1) Shields 2.2) Avatar Costume 2.3) Leather Armour 2.4) Artefact Armour 2.5) Pirate Costume 2.6) Wyrmguard Armour 2.7) Chain Mail 2.8) Bone Armour 2.9) Plate Armour 2.10) Blackrock Armour 2.1) Shields The Protection value is the amount of damage that the shield will block when equipped, while the Block Percentage is the chance that using the shield to actively and completely block a blow will succeed. The Kiran Shield also adds 5 Mana while equipped. The Mage Shield gives negates 20% of magically inflicted damage. Shield Type Protection Block % Steel Buckler 1-4 20 Kiran Shield 2-4 30 Mage Shield 3-5 40 Small Shield 3-6 45 Medium Round Shield 5-8 65 Kite Shield 7-10 85 2.2) Avatar Costume This is the gear the Avatar is wearing upon returning to Britannia. Armour Protection Tunic 3 Arms 1 Gloves 1 Leggings 1 Boots 1 2.3) Leather Armour Armour Protection Cap 2 Chest 5 Arms 2 Gauntlets 1 Leggings 2 Boots 3 2.4) Artefact Armour This magical set of equipment is poor at protecting from damage, but each piece has a magical function that may prove more useful than mere protection. Armour Protection Special Power Helm of Radiance 2 Sheds light around the wearer. Chest of the Troll 5 Health regenerates while worn. Arms of the Magi 3 Reduce mana cost of spells by 25%. Gauntlets of Fury 3 Adds 5 to all damage done. Leggings of Sentri 2 Improve jumping (yellow cursor target always succeeds). Swamp Boots 2 Protection from poison surfaces and swamps. Armour Protection Helm 2 Chest 15 Arms 8 Gauntlets 4 Leggings 7 Boots 5 2.9) Plate Armour Armour Protection Helm 6 Chest 18 Arms 11 Gauntlets 6 Leggings 8 Boots 6 2.10) Blackrock Armour While Blackrock Armour is the most effective protection available, it is also the rarest. Armour Protection Helm 9 Chest 25 Arms 14 Gauntlets 8 Leggings 10 Boots 9 3) Armour Protection Values, sorted by the location the armour is worn on. This section is a quick comparison list, for those who want to know if the Wyrmguard Chest they just found is better or worse than the Chain one they are already wearing. Note that the list does not take other properties of the armour into account, just the protective ones. 3.1) Helms 3.2) Chests 3.3) Arms 3.4) Gauntlets 3.5) Leggings 3.6) Boots 3.1) Helms Helms actually have the smallest selection of types, as the Avatar Costume and the Pirate Costume lack them.
